Special Events Coordinator

Position Overview

We are looking for an energetic and organized Special Events Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting with the planning and coordination of special events, including organizational and community events.

This is a contract position for 8 weeks.  Anticipated start date of June 1, 2026.

  • Energized by the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and make an impact on your community
  • Highly self-motivated with strong time management and organization skills
  • Experience in assisting with special events and/or working with volunteers
  • Successful in a fast-paced work environment
  • Creative and have excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Adept with technology including experience with Office365, design tools such as Canva, digital marketing (web, social media, and e-newsletters) and social media platforms.
  • Great public speaking skills and a willingness to engage with the community
  • Committed personally and professionally to anti-oppression, anti-racism and accessibility and identify with United Way’s values.

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating organizational events, ensuring smooth execution
  • Research and identify community events for organizational participation
  • Attend community events as a representative and ambassador for the organization
  • Develop and maintain an annual events calendar
  • Recruit, organize, and manage volunteers for events
  • Collaborate with staff and partners to maximize event impact and brand awareness
  • Other administrative/marketing duties as required

Please note this role will require some evenings and weekends, due to the nature of the role.

Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license is preferred.

Requirements

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
