Seniors’ Housing and Supports in Guelph & Wellington County

As the health of seniors decrease, many are forced to relocate from their homes to a more supportive environment. This transition can have a negative impact on an individual’s level of independence and create significant feelings of loss. Staying at home to receive the care they need is an option that can help to preserve the senior’s well-being and quality of life. However, respite care for the primary caregiver is also very important because it provides short periods of relief. Other housing options include:  retirement homes where individuals continue to live independently while maintaining a sense of community; supportive housing which may include assistance with meals, housekeeping, and personal care and may offer social and recreational activities; and subsidized housing for individuals with low incomes who are unable to afford the cost of rent and thus, will pay rent that is geared to their household income.
