An employee team from TransAlta Corporation took part in the United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin’s annual Day of Caring at the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) Office in Mount Forest. Employees from TransAlta provided landscape services to the agency, creating a garden space for their Adult Day Program. The small area at the back of the building was tilled and graded so that clients participating in the program can use the space for a garden next Spring. The team came prepared and made light work of the task at hand.
The garden will be home to several varieties of herbs and some vegetables, providing inputs for the Meals on Wheels program that is operated out of the VON office.
The garden will also provide an activity to participants in the agency’s Alzheimer Day Program, allowing attendees to partake in an outdoor activity while engaging in a “regular” activity.
TransAlta Corporation annually allows employees a work day to volunteer in their community. This year, there were two other teams of employees in Orangeville locations completing yard work and painting projects at several locations.
A United Way Day of Caring™, is a program that sees teams of employees take time from their workday to volunteer at local charities. For United Way, arranging a Day of Caring volunteer experience is a way to support local charities in addition to providing financial support.
United Way’s annual multi-million dollar campaign raises funds for more than 85 social service programs across Guelph and Wellington and Dufferin counties.
