The flood has impacted the women’s shelter significantly, with extensive damage to three floors of the building, including the food and supply room. Shelter doors have remained open and services are continuing to be provided to the best of their ability. Surrounding shelters are helping when needed.
“Women In Crisis and Marianne’s Shelter provide vital services to our community. Many women and children escaping from violent situations rely on the shelter to provide them with a safe haven,” said Ken Dardano, executive director of United Way. “Thanks to our donors, United Way is able to provide emergency assistance to local non-profits and charities in times of need, such as Women In Crisis is experiencing now. We are happy to help them get back on their feet.”
United Way’s emergency funding contribution will assist Women In Crisis with covering a large insurance deductible, and materials and services to get the shelter running to full capacity again.
