As part of our mission to meet emerging social needs, we participate in local collaborations to provide strategic support on emergency community issues. Beginning in September 2022, we have been a member of the Strategic Advisory Group on Downtown Guelph which is co-chaired by Mayor Cam Guthrie and Guelph Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Shakiba Shayani.
Our collective vision is a thriving downtown Guelph where everyone feels safe and everyone feels like they belong, the area is prosperous, activated and welcoming, and effective health and social service delivery is provided.
Participating in collaborations such as this are important to our vision to build a community that shares responsibility for social good. We can both contribute to discussions based on our existing expertise, and it provides us an opportunity learn more about emerging needs in our community.
Your donations to United Way enable us to take action on key areas of the Action Plan:
- Accelerate permanent supportive housing – Through the Home for Good Campaign and our Poverty to Possibility focus area, we are committed to bringing permanent supportive housing to our community to ensure that individuals who are chronically homeless are housed and receive the supports they need to be healthy and stay housed.
- Enhance and expand daytime and overnight services and facilities – Through our Poverty to Possibility focus area, we fund downtown service providers who deliver shelter, food and mental health services.
- Strengthen community resilience and prevention – Our All That Kids Can Be service network and Poverty to Possibility focus areas are both focused on resilience and prevention with an aim to make systemic change so that in the future our community will have less emergency needs.
Along with the connection to each of our focus areas, a donation to United Way enables us to be responsive and take action on emerging community needs. Help us move this work forward, donate today.
