The Power of Giving

On GivingTuesday, December 3, we’re showing our love for the community we live in by helping those who need a safe place to rest and recover.  Will you join us?

On GivingTuesday you can make a real difference for people in need. On this day, you can join millions of people across the globe as they come together in a movement of generosity to support causes in their communities. Through the force of collective giving, every individual act of volunteerism or donation to United Way is amplified by the sheer number of people who participate on this global day of giving.

Established in 2012 as a celebratory kickoff to the holiday giving season, GivingTuesday happens on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday and has become a worldwide philanthropic event. In 2018, millions of Canadians joined 6,500 charities and businesses to raise more than $15 million on GivingTuesday. And United Way stands ready to keep the momentum going this year to help people move from poverty to possibility, in Canada, and around the world.

Together we can tackle #UNIGNORABLE issues in our communities and change lives.  United Way is proud of the work we are able to support happening right here in our community.  Thanks to the collaborative effort of many caring and dedicated community partners, programs and solutions are underway to address some very complex issues impacting our community, including community safety, homelessness and mental health & addictions.  Together with partners including the City of Guelph, the Waterloo-Wellington Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), County of Wellington, and the Guelph Police Services Board, United Way has committed $150,000 to the Supported Recovery Room and $10,000 to the Welcoming Streets Initiative this past year.

With every dollar donated on GivingTuesday, we know we can do more and keep these programs running and helping. Our goal is to help meet the basic needs of our community’s most vulnerable people, giving everyone the opportunity to realize a better future.

Won’t you join the world on GivingTuesday, December 3, to help create and maintain a safe, thriving community?  If you’ve never been a part of GivingTuesday, let this be your year to use the power of giving to provide a safe place for those suffering from mental health & addictions to rest and recover.
